Email Attachment Download Link Is Broken When Attached Filename Contains Parentheses in Ultra

In Ultra courses, when a user sends an email with an attachment whose filename contains parentheses ( ), the download link generated in the email is invalid, preventing recipients from downloading the attached file.

Description

In Ultra courses, when a user sends an email with an attachment whose filename contains parentheses ( ), the email notification is sent successfully, but the generated download link for the attachment is invalid. As a result, recipients are unable to access or download the attached file from the email.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log in to Blackboard Learn as an administrator

  2. Create an Ultra course

  3. Create two users, a student and an instructor, ensuring both users have valid email addresses

  4. Enroll both users in the Ultra course created in step 2

  5. Navigate to Course Settings

  6. Under Course Tools, open Messages and disable 'Allow course messages' so that messages are sent by email only

  7. Log in as the student and open the course

  8. From the Roster, select the instructor's Email icon

  9. Compose an email and attach a file whose filename contains parentheses, for example: Sample(rename).docx

  10. Send the email

  11. Open the email received by the instructor and select the attachment download link

Observed Behavior:
The attachment download link generated in the email is invalid, preventing the recipient from downloading the attached file.

Expected Behavior:
The attachment download link should be generated correctly regardless of whether the filename contains parentheses, allowing recipients to download the attached file successfully.
