Unwanted Table is Inserted into Text Editor When Replying to a Course Message Using Internet Explorer

When using Internet Explorer, replying to a Course Message causes an unwanted Table to be inserted into the Text Editor.

Description

When using Internet Explorer, replying to a Course Message causes an unwanted Table to be inserted into the Text Editor.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Using Internet Explorer, log into Blackboard Learn as an Instructor

  2. Enter any course

  3. Enter Student Preview

  4. Tools > Course Messages > Create Message

  5. Craft the message

    1. To: your current Instructor

    2. Subject: "Test"

    3. Body: "Test"

  6. Send

  7. Exit Preview > Keep the preview user and all data > Continue

  8. Tools > Course Messages > Inbox

  9. Open the Test message

  10. Reply > Reply to Sender

  11. Click in the Text Box for the Body field, and begin typing a reply message

Observed Behavior:
A new table appears inside the text editor, which contains the Body text. Cursor focus is shifted to that table, making further edits difficult
Expected Behavior:
The cursor will blink inside the text editor and no new table is created

Resolution / Workaround

Microsoft ended active development for Internet Explorer in January 2016. Support for Internet Explorer ended with Blackboard Learn 9.1 Q4 2018 (v3500.0.0). It is recommended to use a supported Browser.
