Description
In some Ultra courses, instructors remove an assessment access code, but the system later turns it back on by itself. This usually happens after a course is converted from Original to Ultra and students start taking the assessment, often using Respondus LockDown Browser. As a result, students may suddenly be asked for an access code again, even though the instructor did not re‑enable it.
Steps to Replicate
Log into Blackboard Learn as an administrator
Create an Original course with several test/quiz items
Enable Respondus LockDown Browser on each test (without a Respondus password)
Set a test password on each assessment (Classic Original test password)
Copy the course to an Instructor's Choice course
Convert the Instructor's Choice course to Ultra, this should convert the Original test passwords into Ultra access codes (verify access codes appear on each assessment)
Log in as instructor and navigate to each assessment's settings
Remove the access code on each assessment (toggle off → confirm removal in the modal)
Verify the access code shows as removed in the UI
Wait, the client saw reappearance ~5 days later. During this window:
Have students submit attempts through Respondus LockDown Browser on some of the assessments
The Respondus LTI integration communicates back to Learn during the secure browser handshake and may trigger a settings update
Observed Behavior:
Check assessment settings again after student submissions to see if the access code has reappeared.
Expected Behavior:
The access code should not have reappeared.
