Users Without Defined E-Mail Address Can't Send Messages as Emails

In Ultra Course View, users without a configured email address are able to attempt sending emails to instructors when messaging is disabled. However, no validation or warning is presented, and the email is not delivered.

Description

In Ultra Course View, users without a configured email address are able to attempt sending emails to instructors when messaging is disabled. However, no validation or warning is presented, and the email is not delivered.

In contrast, Original Course View correctly prevents this action and displays a warning message:

"The sender's email address wasn't specified or is invalid. Edit Personal Information and set email address."

This results in inconsistent behaviour between course experiences and leads to silent email failure in Ultra.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log into Blackboard LMS as an administrator

  2. Enrol an instructor with a valid email

  3. Enrol a student without an email address

  4. Log in as student

  5. Click the email icon next to the instructor's name

  6. Enter a message and send

Observed Behavior:

No warning is displayed and the email is not sent to the instructor.

Expected Behavior:

Message should be sent using the designated admin address.
