The Originality Reports of unusually large submissions may be impossible to print or export as PDF.
Steps to Replicate
Log into Blackboard Learn as an administrator
Create a very large document
Create an Assignment, use SafeAssign to check submissions for originality
Upload the document
Once the Originality Report generates, try to print or save it to PDF.
Observed Behavior:
Eventually: "Unable to connect to SafeAssign Central Service" appears, or the connection times out.
Expected Behavior:
The Originality Report is Printed/Exported as PDF.
Cause
This incident is known to the company from a single document that had nearly 40,000 english words and took 165 U.S. Letter pages.
For comparison a Novella is typically considered to consist of about this many words and, a commensurate number of pages. This document is exceedingly large.
Resolution / Workaround
Every issue is important, but by definition some issues must take precedence over others. After carefully reviewing this issue with SafeAssign Product Development, Support, Tier-III and other interest groups we have concluded that this issue will not be fixed. The document is an outlier in every way. It is anticipated that the number of documents similar to this one is very low.
Effort to fix this issue would not be a proportionate use of time, and other resources compared to the value of applying these resources elsewhere.

Information
It is very difficult to produce an "estimate" at which point a document is "too big." For the length of the report and the amount of data to "crunch" is not a linear function of page or word count. A document consisting of almost entirely original text with few references will have a smaller originality report compared to a shorter document with low originality and many references.
