SAML login fails when authenticationProvider is null during (custom) SAML attribute mapping

SAML login fails when custom attribute mapping is enabled because the authentication provider is not resolved before the user details are processed, preventing the username and other mapped attributes from being identified.

Description

SAML login fails when custom attribute mapping is enabled because the authentication provider is not resolved before the user details are processed, preventing the username and other mapped attributes from being identified.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Login to Blackboard Learn as administrator

  2. Open Administrator Panel > Integrations > Authentication

  3. Create or edit a SAML authentication provider

  4. Under SAML Attribute Mapping, select Use Custom SAML Attribute

  5. Enter the username attribute sent by the IdP, such as eduPersonPrincipalName

  6. Save and enable the provider

  7. Log out and sign in through the SAML provider

  8. Confirm whether the Learn session opens successfully

Expected Behavior:

The user signs in using the custom SAML attribute.

Observed Behavior:

Authentication completes at the IdP, but Learn displays Sign On Error and does not establish a session.
