Gradebook Column Displays Numeric Score Before Letter Grade is Rendered for Students

Students may briefly see a numeric score before the corresponding letter grade is displayed in Gradebook columns configured to use letter grading.

Description

In Ultra Course Gradebooks, columns configured to display Letter grades may momentarily show the underlying numeric score while the grading schema is loading. After rendering completes, the numeric score is replaced by the correct letter grade, resulting in a brief visual flash of the raw score.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log in to Blackboard Learn as an Administrator or Instructor

  2. Create an Ultra course

  3. Navigate to the Gradebook

  4. Create a new Gradebook column

  5. Set Grade Using to Letter

  6. Enroll a student in the course.

  7. Enter a numeric score for the student in the new column and save it. The score is displayed as a letter grade

  8. Log in as the enrolled student

  9. Open the course and navigate to the Gradebook

  10. Refresh the page and observe the grade pill as it loads

Observed Behavior:

The numeric score briefly appears in the grade pill before being replaced by the configured letter grade. This behavior can often be observed after refreshing the Gradebook page.

Expected Behavior:

When a Gradebook column is configured to display letter grades, students should only see the letter grade and should not briefly see the underlying numeric score during page rendering.
