Overall Grade Column Displays Blank and Undefined

In the gradebook, the Overall Grade column displays blank and the total number of gradable items in the column header appears as "Undefined".

Description

In the gradebook, the Overall Grade column displays blank even though there are items that have been graded and the correct formula is set up. Additionally, the total number of gradable items in the column header appears as "Undefined".

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log in to Blackboard Learn as an instructor

  2. Open an Ultra course

  3. Create assignments, a test, and a final exam.

  4. Navigate to Gradebook -> Grades

  5. Add Calculation 1 (average of all gradable items) and Calculation 2 (average of a subset of the gradable items).

  6. Set up the Overall Grade using the Advanced option and include both calculations in the formula

  7. Enter Student Preview mode and submit attempts for the created assessments

  8. Exit Student Preview and retain the preview user data

  9. Delete the test item from the Content area

  10. Return to Gradebook -> Grades and verify the Overall Grade column

Observed Behavior:
The student’s Overall Grade column is blank, and the total number of gradable items in the column header appears as "Undefined".

Expected Behavior:
The Overall Grade column should display the calculated grade for the student, and the column header displays the correct total number of gradable items.

Resolution / Workaround

  1. Edit the Overall Grade column

  2. Change the calculation type to a different option, then back to the original option (for example, from Points to Weighted then back to Points)

  3. Save the changes
