Course and organization roles control what a user can access and do within a specific course or organization, and roles are assigned independently per course/organization—an individual can be a Teaching Assistant in one course and a Student in another.
Organizations work similarly to courses but can have their own separate roles, letting institutions manage courses and organizations differently.
Roles are typically set when enrolling users, but admins can edit them afterward as needed. Admins can also edit the properties and privileges of existing roles or copy standard roles to create custom ones.
Some standard course and organization roles come pre-configured in Blackboard LMS.
Assign course roles to user accounts
You don't assign course roles to individual users in the same way you assign system or institution roles. Instead, the role is assigned within the course. When you change a user's role in a course, it applies only to that course. The user's other course roles are unchanged. Instructors can change course roles to delegate some of the responsibility for maintaining the course.
To change a user's course role in the Ultra Course View:
Go to the course's Course Content page. Select Roster under Details & Actions.
Select a course member's name.
In the Member Information panel, under Course Settings, select a new role.
Select Save.
