Description
In Ultra view mode, when an achievement is configured with a grade-based performance criterion, students who have already satisfied the criterion will not automatically receive the corresponding badge after the achievement is published. Submitting another attempt with the same score does not trigger the achievement because the final assessment grade remains unchanged. The badge is only awarded after the assessment grade is manually changed to a different value and then changed back to a value that satisfies the achievement criterion.
Steps to Replicate
Log in to Blackboard Learn Ultra Experience as an instructor or administrator
Create and access an Ultra course
Navigate to Course Content > Select + > Create > Select Test > Enter a test title
Open Test Settings > Under Assessment Settings:
- Configure the test to allow multiple attempts
- Set the grading calculation for multiple attempts to Last graded attempt
- Set the maximum points for the test to 100
- Make the test Visible to studentsSave the test
Enroll a student in the course
Log in as the student
Open the test created in previous steps and select Start attempt
Complete the test with a score of 100/100 > Submit the attempt
Log back in as the instructor
Navigate to Achievements > Select New Course Badge
Configure the badge details and select the option to add an earning requirement
Select the test as the performance criterion > Configure the criterion to require a score of 70 points or higher
Publish the badge
Log in as the student and open Achievements
Observed Behavior:
The student does not receive the badge even though the student already has a score of 100/100, which satisfies the configured criterion.
Expected Behavior:
The student should automatically receive the badge because the student already met the configured grade criterion when the achievement was published.
16. Log in as the student and submit another attempt for the same test > Ensure the second attempt also receives a score of 100/100
17. Return to the student's Achievements page
Observed Behavior:
The badge is not awarded to the student because the assessment's final grade remains unchanged after the second attempt.
Expected Behavior:
The student should automatically receive the badge because the student already met the configured grade criterion when the achievement was published. Submitting another attempt with the same qualifying score should not be required to trigger the badge.
Resolution / Workaround
The badge is only awarded after the assessment grade is manually changed to a different value and then changed back to a value that satisfies the achievement criterion, which causes the grade to be updated and the achievement to be evaluated.
