MathJax for LaTeX Feature is Not Rendering with Ultra Courses Only Block-Level Expressions Display Correctly

In Ultra courses, when the 'MathJax for LaTeX (Ultra Only)' feature is enabled, inline LaTeX expressions enclosed in \( ... \) do not render as expected. Only block-level expressions enclosed in $$ ... $$ are rendered correctly.

Description

In Ultra courses, when the 'MathJax for LaTeX (Ultra Only)' feature is enabled, inline LaTeX expressions enclosed in \( ... \) do not render as expected. Only block-level expressions enclosed in $$ ... $$ are rendered correctly.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log in to Blackboard Learn Ultra Experience as an Administrator

  2. Enable Tool MathJax for LaTeX (Ultra Only) for all Ultra courses

  3. Log in as an Instructor

  4. Access any Ultra Course

  5. Go to Create > Document > Add Content

  6. Copy and paste the following content:When \(a \ne 0\), there are two solutions to \(ax^2 + bx + c = 0\) and they are
    $$x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac} \over 2a}.$$

Observed Behavior:

Only the block formula inside $$ ... $$ is rendered properly. The inline expressions using \( ... \) remain unrendered and appear as plain text.

Expected Behavior:

Both inline \( ... \) and block $$ ... $$ LaTeX expressions should be rendered correctly as math formulas.

Resolution / Workaround

Please be informed that, according to our documentation in Help, the MathJax feature only supports $$ ... $$ delimiters.
