Keyboard Navigation Through Learning Module is not Following the Correct Order

The tab order places the Contents area of Learning Modules last, after all other content has been navigated through.

Description

Visually, the content menu of Learning Modules is positioned near the top of the page and to the left of the content area. As such, it would be expected to be read and accessed before the main content. However, keyboard navigation through Learning Modules is not following the same order, as the content menu is accessed last when users use the tab key to navigate.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log into Blackboard Learn Ultra Experience as an administrator

  2. Create a course and a Learning Module with a few files inside

  3. Use the Student Preview function and open the Learning Module

  4. Use the tab key to navigate through the page

Observed Behavior:

The content of the module / file is reached last after all other page and browser elements.

Expected Behavior:

The Content Menu of the Module should be accessed first

Resolution / Workaround

  1. Focus DOM order was fixed in the 400.4 release. Currently, the focus first goes to TOC navigation items, then the content on the right side.

  2. For the test, the focus first goes to 'start attempt', which is by design.
