Description
When a Group Discussion is configured to use a Self-Enroll Group and is placed within a Learning Module, students receive inconsistent behavior depending on how they access the discussion. Opening the discussion directly from the Course Content page correctly prompts the student to enroll in a group before accessing the discussion. However, when navigating to the same discussion using the Next button within the Learning Module, the self-enrollment prompt is bypassed, and a permission error is displayed instead.
Steps to Replicate
Log in to Blackboard Learn as an administrator
Navigate to System Admin > Courses > Create an Ultra Course
Enroll yourself as an instructor and enroll one student in the course
Navigate to Groups and create a Self-Enroll group set named Self-Enroll Group
Create a Learning Module and make it visible to students
Inside the Learning Module, create a folder and make it visible to students
Inside the folder, create a document and make it visible to students
Create a discussion inside the folder, enable Group Discussion, and associate it with the Self-Enroll Group group set
Log in as the student and open the group discussion directly from the Course Content page
Dismiss the self-enrollment prompt without joining a group
Open the document within the Learning Module to enter the Learning Module navigation view
Click Next to navigate to the group discussion
Observed Behavior:
Instead of displaying the self-enrollment prompt, the Learning Module navigation displays a permission error indicating that the user does not have permission to access the content.
Expected Behavior:
When navigating to the group discussion through the Learning Module, students should be prompted to enroll in a group before accessing the discussion, matching the behavior when the discussion is opened directly from the Course Content page.
