Cannot Edit Alt Text for Images Added via URL

Images inserted using Image from URL do not provide the same alt-text editing experience as uploaded images, making alt-text updates difficult to discover.

Description

When editing content in the Content Editor, images that were added using the Image from URL option do not display the standard image editing controls (such as resize handles and the edit/pencil icon) available for uploaded images. As a result, users may be unable to easily locate the option to view or modify alt text, creating an inconsistent and confusing accessibility workflow.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log in to Blackboard Learn as an Administrator

  2. Navigate to a course containing a test question with an image that was inserted using Image from URL (create a new course, if not available)

  3. Open the Test or Assessment

  4. Locate a question that contains the image

  5. Edit the question

  6. Click the image within the Content Editor

Observed Behavior:

The image is highlighted but resize handles and the pencil (edit image) icon do not appear. Selecting the Image button only opens the workflow for inserting a new image, and there is no obvious option to edit the existing image's alt text.

Expected Behavior:

The image is highlighted with resize handles and an edit (pencil) icon. Selecting the edit option opens the image properties dialog where alt text can be viewed, added, or modified, consistent with the behavior of uploaded images.
