As Blackboard's new infrastructure empathizes security , one change is that there now exists a 2-minute timeout. This does not affect file uploads / downloads but does manifest itself with the Grades Journey API with a payload containing 20+ gradable items .

Steps to Replicate

  1. Login to Blackboard Learn as administrator

  2. Configure the Grade Export v2 Incoming Setting for Rest API Provisioning

  3. Prepare a valid JSON payload containing more than 20 gradable items

  4. From an external REST API client, send the payload to /learn/api/v2/cc/gradejourney/gradableItemsAPI.

  5. Monitor the request and confirm that it times out after approximately two minutes

  6. Verify that the gradable items are not successfully provisioned

  7. Split the payload into smaller requests and submit each request separately

  8. Confirm that the smaller requests complete successfully within the two-minute threshold

Observed Behavior:

The API request times out after approximately two minutes, preventing the gradable items from being provisioned.

Expected Behavior:

The API processes the complete payload and returns a successful response.

Resolution / Workaround

Separate larger JSON requests that contain multiple gradable items into multiple smaller requests so that the request can complete within the 2-minute threshold.
