Embedded .wav Files do not Play in Firefox or Chrome

Chrome and Firefox browsers display "plugin unsupported" when .wav audio files are embedded by using the Visual Text Box Editor (VTBE).

Description

Chrome and Firefox browsers display "plugin unsupported" when .wav audio files are embedded by using the Visual Text Box Editor (VTBE).

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log in to Blackboard Learn

  2. Go to a Course

  3. Control Panel > Files (or content management)

  4. Upload a .wav file to the course files

  5. Go to Tests, Surveys, and Pools > Tests > Build a test '.wav audio'

  6. Create exam question #1 and in VTBE > Insert/Embed Media > upload a .wav file from your local computer

  7. View the question as a professor or student

Observed Behavior:
The following error occurs in Chrome and Firefox:
Plugin unsupported.
Expected Behavior:
The embedded .wav audio file plays without error.

Cause

The VTBE creates the embed via the following HTML and sees the .wav as a "Windows Media" file (and you cannot change this).
