No Error Message Displayed When Saving Portfolios When Input Text Greater Than Safe HTML Filter maxInputSize

Pasted content from Word may not always be saved properly; clearing the formatting before saving usually prevents this.

Description

When text is copied and pasted from Microsoft Word into the application, it does not always save correctly. This issue appears to occur intermittently and may be related to hidden formatting that Word includes with the copied text. Users have found that removing or clearing the formatting before pasting, or using a ‘paste as plain text’ option, often prevents the problem and allows the text to save as expected.

Steps to Replicate

  1. Log in as a student

  2. Access tools > Portfolio > Create a portfolio > Create a new Page

  3. Go to an empty Section on the page > In the text editor, input some text larger than the input size defined in the policy above.

  4. Make a selection on the pop-up tab containing the Paste Formatting Options: Keep formatting or Remove

  5. Save and observe that the added text is correctly displayed on the page > Click Done Editing

  6. Edit again the portfolio page where the text was pasted

  7. Observe: The page is empty. None of the pasted text was saved.

Observed Behavior: The content the student has pasted is not actually saved. No warning or error message was displayed.

Expected Behavior: The input text to be saved. Alternatively, in the event of an error, a message should be displayed on the screen to warn students about the issue.

Resolution / Workaround

Clearing any embedded formatting prior to pasting, or utilizing the ‘paste as plain text’ function, has consistently proven to eliminate the error and allows the text to be stored without loss.
