Description

Description:

Blackboard is committed to delivering a market-leading Learning Management System of the highest quality and security. Feature areas are periodically evaluated to determine their suitability to support our customers’ academic goals. During a recent evaluation, we made the decision to retire the older version of the Grade Export feature that has been replaced by a newer version. Institutions using the older version 1 should upgrade to version 2. Version 1 will only be available until January 31, 2027.

Information

Information:

Grade Export is a feature of Blackboard LMS to facilitate extraction of grades for integration with a Student Information System. There are two versions presently available: version 1 and version 2. Version 1 will only be available until January 31, 2027. In February 2027, institutions will no longer be able to use version 1 of Grade Export and should use version 2 instead. Blackboard will only address critical bugs with version 1 until it’s retired.

How do I determine which version I’m using?

The Grade Export feature is managed in the administrator panel in the “Platform Extensions” area. Both version 1 and version 2 will appear in this list. Review the settings for each to determine which is in active use.

Does this impact the gradebook export/import used by instructors?

No. This only affects the system-wide data integration capability. The gradebook export and import feature for instructors allows them to manage their gradebooks with spreadsheet software. That feature, found in the Blackboard LMS course gradebook, is not affected by this change.

When should my institution transition to version 2?

Because this is an integration between the Gradebook tool in Blackboard LMS and Student Information Systems, the best time to transition is between any grade reporting periods. That might be after final grades have been reported to the SIS or it could be between midterm grades reporting and final grades reporting.

A best practice for such a transition is to try the new export method using version 2 while there’s still time to revert to version 1 temporarily if needed. For this reason, we recommend transitioning as quickly as possible and not waiting until the deadline.

Additional Information

Managing change:

If your institution is using version 1 of the Grade Export, you should transition to version 2. Blackboard provides a detailed transition guide for administrators.

Configurations and settings for Grade Export version 1 will be deleted after January 31, 2027. After this date, it won’t be possible to review the prior configuration to set up a new integration. The removal of the Grade Export v1 configuration data will not impact gradebook data.
